Betsy wraps the ends of the posts that will go into the ground, to allow for frost heaving that won't heave the posts as well.
Cross-braced posts waiting to be backfilled. By now the dirt we took out digging the holes was frozen solid, and required a whole lot of sledge-hammering and pickaxe-ing to backfill. It took about as much time to backfill as it did to dig.
All the wood was warped a little, so we would turn the wood so the warps worked with the direction of the beams. A new discovery for me- most long spans of lumber aren't straight, some aren't even close. Lumber also doesn't live up to it's advertised measurements; a 2x4 isn't 2 inches wide OR 4 inches tall. No one has been able to tell me why yet.
